Sooryavanshi dismissed for 4 in 2nd T20I after roaring Christchurch welcome

· Sports · India Today, Times of India

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dismissed for four off eight deliveries batting at No. 3 as New Zealand defeated India in Christchurch on Saturday. The 15-year-old looked jittery against the Kiwi attack and top-edged a shot to Daryl Mitchell in the third over. He had earlier been reprieved when Bevon Jacobs failed to take a catch off Michael Bracewell. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner was visibly unimpressed by the dropped chance. India retained Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma as their opening pair, pushing Sooryavanshi into the middle order. Sooryavanshi had not played a T20I since the Asian Games, where he scored 53 runs in two matches as India won gold.

Why it matters

Sooryavanshi's failure to capitalise on his opportunities raises questions about India's middle-order plans ahead of the series, with the youngster struggling to find rhythm against international pace.
