SoundCloud Launches Direct-to-Artist Music Sales Feature
· Technology · Engadget, Billboard
SoundCloud is introducing a feature that allows fans to purchase music directly from artists via their profile pages. The company is currently beta testing the tool with 200 US-based Artist Pro subscribers before a broader rollout planned for this fall. SoundCloud will not take a commission from these sales, though creators remain responsible for processing fees and local taxes. Musicians can manage sales through the platform's Artist Studio and Fan Support dashboards. This move follows recent industry shifts, including significant staff reductions at rival platform Bandcamp.
Why it matters
This feature creates a new revenue stream for independent musicians on SoundCloud, directly challenging platforms like Bandcamp by allowing artists to retain more earnings from their digital sales.
