Sourav Ganguly Biopic Shoot Lands County Club In Fine
· Sports · Times of India, Indian Express
Leicestershire has been penalised with a 27-point deduction and fined 5,000 pounds after breaching pitch regulations during a County Championship match against Glamorgan. The Cricket Discipline Panel upheld the charge after the Grace Road pitch was rated poor following Leicestershire's 42-run win from August 20 to 23. Leicestershire head groundsman Callum Lewin cited extreme weather and an unscheduled Bollywood film shoot for Sourav Ganguly's biopic four days before the match as factors affecting his preparations. However, the panel rejected the filming as a mitigating factor because the shoot lasted only one day. The club now has 10 working days to appeal the decision.
Why it matters
The penalty directly hurts Leicestershire's standing in Division One as the club fights to avoid relegation from the County Championship.
