SpaceX Building In-House Foundry to Accelerate Gas Turbine Production

SpaceX is establishing a specialized foundry in Bastrop, Texas, to manufacture blades and vanes for natural gas turbines. Elon Musk confirmed the site is designed to address a critical manufacturing bottleneck that currently limits the speed at which power plants can be brought online. By producing these components in-house, SpaceX aims to reduce turbine production lead times by up to 18 months. This initiative is intended to support the rapidly increasing electricity demands of AI data centers, which are currently facing power grid constraints. The casting process for these turbine parts is highly complex, involving metal alloys that must withstand temperatures exceeding their own melting points.
