SpaceX stock rises 0.3% ahead of Starship Flight 14 targeting cheaper Starlink capacity
· Business · Hindustan Times, Reuters
SpaceX shares rose 0.3% in overnight trading on Monday ahead of Starship Flight 14, scheduled to launch from Starbase, Texas at 8:15 am ET. The mission will deploy 26 Starlink V3 satellites into orbit at an altitude of 275 kilometers, marking the company's first revenue-generating flight. SpaceX CFO Bret Johnsen called Flight 14 the first flight with commercial purpose, distinct from earlier suborbital test flights. The Federal Aviation Administration approved the launch and reentry operations over the weekend, clearing the path for the mission after a prior delay from September 22.
Why it matters
The Flight 14 launch is significant as it will be the first Starship mission to enter Earth orbit and deploy satellites, directly expanding Starlink's network capacity and targeting cheaper broadband service through 2028. The mission's success could validate Starship as a core component of SpaceX's broader business beyond space exploration.
