Sports Minister Announces Task Force to Assess Formula 1 Revival in India

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced a 10-member Task Force on Tuesday to evaluate the challenges and feasibility of reviving Formula 1 racing in India with the goal of hosting a grand prix in 2028. The committee is chaired by NITI Aayog Programme Director and Adviser Yugal Kishore Joshi and includes Joint Secretary (Sports) Kunal alongside FMSCI President Arindam Ghosh. The panel features representatives from the Department of Tourism and Commerce, the Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra governments, circuit owners Adani Group, and tax authorities including the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs and the Central Board of Direct Taxes. India last hosted a Formula 1 race at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida in 2013 before bureaucratic and taxation issues caused it to be dropped. The newly formed Task Force will examine sustainable motorsport growth, taxation hurdles, and public-private partnership models.
