Stanford Study Finds AI Disproportionately Impacts Entry-Level Jobs

New research from Stanford University economists indicates that AI is causing significant job losses for workers aged 22 to 25 in highly exposed occupations. Employment levels for these young workers in AI-impacted fields are now 19 percent lower than those in less affected sectors, a gap that has widened from 13 percent last year. The study utilized payroll data from ADP and assessed job exposure using the Anthropic Economic Index and other labor market impact gauges. While overall employment across the economy shows little difference between high and low AI-exposed jobs, the disparity for entry-level roles is substantial. Since 2022, employment in the top 40 percent of AI-impacted jobs for young workers has declined by 11 percent, while roles with lower AI exposure saw 10 percent growth.
