Startup Launches New Social Network Under 'Twitter' Name
· Technology · Ars Technica, TechCrunch
Virginia-based startup Operation Bluebird has launched a new social media network named Twitter.now, claiming that Elon Musk’s X Corporation abandoned the original trademark. Co-founder Stephen Coates stated that the company is rebuilding the brand on trust and has integrated a Gemini-based automated fact-checking tool called Vera. While a US district judge previously made a tentative ruling that X may have relinquished its rights to the Twitter name and logo, no final written order has been issued. The new platform is currently in a nascent stage with a limited user base.
Why it matters
The launch tests the legal boundaries of intellectual property abandonment and could create a new competitor in the social media space if the trademark claims hold up in court.
