Strong Returns! IPO market heats up with 25% average listing gains in two months

· Business · Economic Times, Bloomberg, LiveMint

India's primary stock market staged a strong rebound during July and August, with 18 out of 22 IPOs delivering positive debut-day returns. Average listing-day gains stood at 25%, marking a sharp rise from the 7% recorded in the April-June quarter and a discount in the preceding quarter. Behari Lal Engineering led the quarterly surge with shares soaring 76% on listing day, followed by Indo MIM at nearly 53% and Shiprocket at around 48%. Analysts attribute the momentum to strong investor sentiment, attractive valuations, and major upcoming public offerings. The overall success rate for investors in companies going public during this period reached roughly 82%.

Why it matters

The resurgence in debut-day gains boosts primary market confidence for retail and institutional investors, paving the way for a heavy upcoming calendar of public offerings.
