· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times

A study by the IC3 Institute reveals that student well-being in India drops significantly as they progress through senior school. The report, based on 8,515 student responses, shows that high overall well-being fell from 62% in Grade 8 to 43% in Grade 12. Happiness, confidence, and motivation metrics also saw consistent declines, while negative emotions like anxiety and frustration peaked in the final years of school. Launched in Mumbai, the findings highlight that female students report higher levels of negative emotions compared to their male counterparts.

Why it matters

The decline in mental health among senior students points to a critical gap in support systems, affecting the academic performance and long-term development of millions of Indian teenagers.
