· Sports · NDTV Sports, Times of India
Royal Challengers Bengaluru star Rajat Patidar allegedly subjected Shubman Gill to racist abuse during Punjab Kings' victory over RCB on Monday, marking the latest racial incident in the IPL. The Indian Cricket Board has condemned the behaviour and launched an investigation into the specific comments made by fans in the stadium. Video footage from the match has circulated widely on social media showing Patidar exchanging heated words with Gill during the game.
Why it matters
The incident threatens the IPL's reputation as a family-friendly tournament and intensifies scrutiny on crowd conduct, with the BCCI facing pressure to enforce stricter stadium bans and anti-racism measures. Gill, already a target of online trolling, now joins a growing list of players facing racial abuse in India's premier cricket league.
