Supreme Court Agrees to Hear Former AAP MLA Naresh Balyan's Bail Plea

The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear a plea filed by former Aam Aadmi Party MLA Naresh Balyan challenging the denial of bail in a Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act case. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta sought a response from the Delhi Police within four weeks. The Delhi High Court had previously denied bail on August 3, ruling that intercepted conversations demonstrated an active criminal nexus between Balyan and gangster Kapil Sangwan. Balyan was arrested under the MCOCA on December 4, 2024, after investigators linked him to an alleged crime syndicate facing 17 FIRs. The former lawmaker maintained that he was a victim of political vendetta and had previously lodged complaints against the gangster.
