Supreme Court Directs Government to Locate Missing Captain Ashish Kumar

The Supreme Court has ordered the Union government to file a status report regarding the whereabouts of Captain Ashish Kumar, who went missing after a missile attack on his ship, MT Skylight, in the Strait of Hormuz on March 1. Although authorities initially presumed him dead after discovering remains in the captain's cabin, subsequent DNA tests confirmed the remains were not his. His wife, Anshu Kumari, filed a petition alleging that ransom calls from international numbers and activity on the captain's WhatsApp account suggest he is alive and being held captive. The petitioner further claimed that the government has failed to initiate a specialized investigation or utilize diplomatic channels to trace the missing citizen. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant directed Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to provide an update on the case by next Monday.
