· India · The Hindu, Indian Express

The Supreme Court of India stated that Shiv Sena-UBT leader Sanjay Raut must explain his conduct while agreeing to entertain his petition provisionally. A Bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi issued notice on Thursday to the Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar regarding alleged SIR irregularities. Mr. Raut is one of 13 co-petitioners in a plea filed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi challenging voter list deletions and the use of Form 6. During the hearing, the Chief Justice asserted that the judiciary will not be browbeaten by statements made outside the court by opposition leaders. The top court directed the poll panel and election commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi to respond to the petition.
