The petition, filed by advocate Narendra Kumar Goswami, sought uniform labelling on every dispensing nozzle at petrol pumps to inform consumers of the ethanol blend percentage. The Centre opposed the plea, noting that the court had previously dismissed challenges to the government's ethanol-blending policy. The bench, comprising Justices MM Sundresh and PB Varale, advised Goswami to approach the competent authority instead of directly moving the Supreme Court.
