Supreme Court Justice Warns Delhi Air Will Deteriorate Post-Diwali

· India · Hindustan Times, NDTV

Supreme Court judge Vikram Nath remarked on Wednesday that Delhi's air quality will worsen significantly following Diwali. The observation came during a hearing in New Delhi when the bench accommodated a request by senior advocate Indira Jaising to defer a matter to November 17. Justice Nath noted that celebrating before the festival offers a cleaner environment compared to the severe pollution expected afterward. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a separate batch of petitions regarding firecracker regulations on Thursday. Existing judicial orders enforce a strict ban on the sale and distribution of firecrackers across Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region.

Why it matters
