Supreme Court Nullifies Karnataka Law Validating 2011 Recruitment
· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times
The Supreme Court of India has declared the Karnataka Civil Services (Validation of Selection and Appointment of 2011 Batch Gazetted Probationers) Act, 2022, unconstitutional. A Bench of Justices J.B. Pardiwala and K. Vinod Chandran ruled that the state legislature lacked the power to nullify previous court judgments that had already cancelled the 2011 recruitment process. The original recruitment for 362 Group ‘A’ and ‘B’ officer posts was found to be corrupt and nepotistic. The court criticized the state government for its inconsistent stance over the last decade, which left candidates in uncertainty.
Why it matters
This ruling upholds the finality of judicial decisions regarding public recruitment and prevents state legislatures from overturning court-ordered cancellations of corrupt hiring processes.
