Supreme Court Scraps NEET-UG Protest FIRs Following CJP Exchange
· India · Indian Express, The Hindu
The Supreme Court has used its special powers under Article 142 to scrap all FIRs against protesters involved in the NEET-UG paper leak demonstrations. The decision followed requests from the Delhi Police and four state governments to resolve the legal cases. During the proceedings, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) exchanged praise, leading the group to call off its planned September 5 march. The CJP, a platform formed in response to a previous judicial remark, had been protesting since July.
Why it matters
The ruling provides legal relief to students and protesters involved in the NEET-UG paper leak demonstrations, effectively closing the criminal cases against them.
