Supreme Court Seeks Government and CBSE Response on OSM Glitches

The Supreme Court on Friday directed the central government and the CBSE to submit their responses by Monday regarding a permanent mechanism to address on-screen marking (OSM) glitches in board examinations. A bench led by CJI Surya Kant emphasized the need for a permanent system after the government reported that 168,000 students benefited from a recent one-week revaluation window. Solicitor general Tushar Mehta informed the court that extending the deadline further is not feasible due to coordination with other competitive examinations. Petitioner lawyer Rakesh Binjola argued that the beneficiary figure is too low and that tens of thousands of student careers remain at stake following compartment exams. The bench instructed the petitioner to file an affidavit identifying specific student categories left out due to technological gaps or missed deadlines.
