Supriya Sule Alleges BJP Used Spy-Cam Pens in Maharashtra MLC Polls

· India · Times of India, The Hindu

NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule has alleged that the BJP distributed pens fitted with hidden spy cameras to voters during the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections in Pune. According to Sule, voters in the Pune Teachers' and Graduates' constituencies were instructed to place the pens in their pockets to record themselves casting ballots for BJP candidates. She claimed that voters were offered cash payments after showing the recorded footage as proof of their vote. Sule called on the Election Commission of India and state authorities to launch a thorough investigation, warning that such practices violate ballot secrecy and voter freedom. Responding to the claims, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that he was unaware of any such device or scheme.

Why it matters

The allegations target the integrity of secret balloting in Maharashtra's legislative council elections, raising critical concerns over voter bribery, surveillance, and election conduct.
