Surat Court Rejects Anticipatory Bail Plea in GMC Student Suicide Case

A Surat court has rejected the anticipatory bail application of a second-year postgraduate student at the Government Medical College in a case linked to the death of first-year student Dr Harsh Pandya. Dr Pandya died allegedly by suicide in his hostel room on August 9 after facing severe mental and physical harassment from senior students. On August 15, the victim's father, Dr Shubhashchandra Pandya, filed a police complaint against four postgraduate students accusing them of forcing juniors to sit on the floor and perform menial tasks. An anti-ragging committee at the medical college confirmed that the four accused used abusive language and insulted junior students. Police have booked the accused under BNS sections for abetment of suicide, wrongful confinement, intentional insult, and provisions of the Atrocity Act.
