The death of 29-year-old Mohammad Ghamira, a former White Helmets volunteer, has triggered public protests and social media outrage in Syria. Ghamira died in a Latakia hospital on Sunday shortly after his release from the al-Haffah police station, where he had been detained on theft allegations. Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh stated that Ghamira suffered fatal gastrointestinal and cerebral hemorrhaging caused by beatings while in custody. His family confirmed he suffered from hemophilia and had alerted authorities to his medical condition prior to the incident. The interior ministry has since launched an investigation and detained seven personnel for questioning regarding the death.
