Tajinderpal Singh Toor Aims for 22m Shot Put Benchmark
· Sports · Sportstar, NDTV Sports
Two-time Asian Games champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor aims to break the 22m barrier in shot put. The 31-year-old athlete holds the national record at 21.77m and hopes to elevate Indian shot put standards in the manner Neeraj Chopra transformed javelin. Toor competed at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow despite suffering a Grade 1 calf tear 12 days prior, finishing fifth with a throw of 20.27m. His career has also faced setbacks from an ankle problem in 2024 and a fractured hand in 2021. He currently trains in a special box cabin in Chennai to acclimatise for upcoming competitions in Japan.
Why it matters
Reaching the 22m mark would elevate Indian shot put to global elite levels and inspire a new generation of athletes.
