Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay Marks Political Milestone With High-Profile Meetings
· India · India Today, The Hindu, NDTV
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay experienced a major political turnaround over the weekend following Assembly by-election victories in Madurantakam and Dharapuram. The newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam secured both casual vacancies, expanding its legislative strength from 107 to 109 seats. The electoral success was followed by a high-profile reunion with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and official engagements with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The sequence of events marks a sharp contrast to his political standing in October 2025 following the Karur stampede. The victories confirm that the party's debut performance in May 2026 was not a temporary anomaly.
Why it matters
The by-election wins solidify the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam's political footprint in Tamil Nadu, positioning Chief Minister Vijay as a key player in both state and national politics.
