Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay stopped at a roadside farmhouse in Salem on Tuesday on his way to the airport, after inspecting the Mettur hydroelectric power station and opening the sluice gates of the Stanley Reservoir for the Samba cultivation season. He walked over to a group of elderly women working in a field, including Chellam, who held his hand and took a walk with him around the garden. Vijay then removed his Christian Dior sunglasses and placed them on Chellam's face, after some initial hesitation on her part. The 15-minute unscheduled stop also included a visit to a cattle shed owned by local farmer Palanisamy, where Vijay distributed dhotis and sarees to the host family. Chellam told PTI the moment felt like winning a "crore of rupees" and said Vijay looked "just like he does in his movies," adding she had earlier told him she would defend him if anyone tried to harm him.
