Tamil Nadu Govt to Set Up Talent Research Wing to Groom Olympic Champions

The Tamil Nadu government announced the establishment of a Talent Research Wing under the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu at a cost of ₹5 crore. Public Works and Sports Development Minister Aadhav Arjuna stated that the initiative aims to identify young boys and girls aged 8 to 18 and train them for future Olympic games. As part of the sports infrastructure overhaul, new sports hostels will be set up in all 27 districts where they do not currently exist, and all existing SDAT hostels will be modernised with air-conditioning facilities. The state will also establish 10 Olympic Centres of Excellence at a cost of ₹15 crore, alongside a Paralympic Centre of Excellence and an Olympic House in Chennai. Additionally, cash incentives for Tamil Nadu sportspersons winning Olympic and Paralympic gold medals have been raised from ₹3 crore to ₹5 crore, with increased financial assistance for silver and bronze medalists as well as qualified athletes.
