Tamil Nadu Police Hand 6 Crypto Fraud Cases To Economic Offences Wing
· India · NDTV
Tamil Nadu Police have transferred six cryptocurrency fraud cases to the state's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for deeper investigation. According to the preliminary probe, investors were allegedly asked to make payments in cash or through G-Pay and UPI, with a portion of the funds reportedly converted into Tether (USDT) and credited to digital wallets. The fraud is suspected to have run across multiple districts, though the exact scale of investor losses has not been disclosed.
Why it matters
Tamil Nadu retail investors who paid into these schemes face a longer and more specialised probe, while the shift signals that crypto-related frauds using stablecoins and UPI rails are now being treated as serious economic offences rather than routine cybercrimes.
