Tanvi Sharma Defeats Isharani Baruah in Straight Games at French Open
· Sports · Indian Express, Sportstar
World No. 21 Tanvi Sharma secured a 21-12, 21-12 victory over compatriot Isharani Baruah in the opening round of the French Open. Tanvi controlled the front court by exploiting Isharani's struggles with net play and shot selection. Although Isharani possesses powerful jump smashes and speed from the back court, her tactical limitations at the net have stalled her ranking between 39 and 40 for six months. Tanvi capitalized on these weaknesses to easily wrap up the match in straight games.
Why it matters
The match highlights technical gaps in Indian women's singles badminton, particularly the urgent need for players to improve front-court craft and tactical variety.
