Tareeka badla hai, maqsad nahi: Shehzad Poonawalla predicts Rahul Gandhi's future

· India · Hindustan Times, India Today

Former BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla resigned from the party in August 2026, citing financial hardship and the need to pay rent. On X he stated, "Rahul Gandhi will never be PM of India till I am alive," adding that the method has changed but the objective remains. Poonawalla first left Congress in 2017 after accusing its presidential election of being rigged in favour of Rahul Gandhi, and since then he has criticized both parties. He also made remarks that Rajiv Gandhi was the biggest supporter of Narendra Modi and claimed Modi would become prime minister again in 2029. The resignation was submitted to BJP national president Nitin Nabin, who accepted it.

Why it matters

Poonawalla’s public dismissal of Rahul Gandhi’s prospects and his exit from BJP signal growing disillusionment among party operatives and may weaken the BJP’s image as a party that adequately rewards its workers, while also casting doubts on Congress’s leadership prospects.
