Tata Group Stocks Expected to Rally Following RBI Listing Directive

· Business · LiveMint, Indian Express

Tata group stocks, led by Tata Chemicals, are expected to see short-term gains after the RBI rejected Tata Sons' request to remain a private entity. Tata Chemicals holds a 2.5% stake in the holding company, which analysts value at over ₹17,407 crore if listed. The RBI's decision follows a 2022 directive requiring core investment companies with assets exceeding ₹1 trillion to list on stock exchanges within three years. Tata Sons, which reported a profit of ₹31,961 crore in FY26, must now decide whether to comply with the regulatory mandate or pursue a legal challenge. The conglomerate's private businesses, including Air India and Tata Digital, reported combined losses of ₹29,924 crore.

Why it matters

A potential listing of Tata Sons would allow for better price discovery of the conglomerate's underlying assets and impact the valuation of seven listed Tata group companies.
