Tata Motors to Acquire Iveco Group in €3.82 Billion Deal
· Business · LiveMint, Economic Times
Tata Motors has announced an all-cash acquisition of the Italian commercial vehicle manufacturer Iveco Group for €3.82 billion. The transaction, to be executed through a tender offer, is set to transform Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles into a global entity delivering over 5.90 lakh vehicles annually. Following the merger, Tata's combined revenue is expected to exceed €21 billion, with European operations accounting for approximately 46% of its net business. While the deal provides access to advanced FPT powertrain technology, analysts note that the acquisition will increase balance sheet leverage due to the funding structure. Tata has committed to preserving Iveco's Turin headquarters and workforce for two years.
Why it matters
This acquisition marks a significant shift for Tata Motors from a domestic-focused player to a diversified global commercial vehicle powerhouse, though it introduces higher short-term financial costs.
