Telangana Deputy CM Seeks Fair Share of Krishna Waters, Not Privilege
· India · Indian Express, The Hindu
At the 31st Southern Zonal Council in Mahabalipuram, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the state seeks a fair entitlement to Krishna waters rather than special privilege. He reiterated Telangana’s lower‑riparian rights over surplus waters and called for resolution through the second Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal and existing adjudicatory mechanisms. Dewar also requested central financial support for the Kaleshwaram and Palamuru‑Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. He highlighted unresolved post‑2014 reorganisation issues, notably Andhra’s claim to divide assets of certain Schedule X institutions, which Telangana contests under the Reorganisation Act.
Why it matters
The outcome of the Krishna water allocation will affect irrigation, agriculture and industrial development in Telangana. A decision could alter water availability for farmers and the state’s infrastructure projects.
