Telangana Health Minister Orders End To Unnecessary Hospital Referrals

· India · The Hindu, Zee News

Telangana Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha has directed government hospitals to stop referring patients to higher-level facilities for minor ailments that can be treated locally. The Minister warned that strict action will be taken against facilities that continue the practice, which he noted adds unnecessary pressure on tertiary care hospitals. He emphasized that Community Health Centres, Area Hospitals, and District Hospitals should be strengthened to perform major surgeries and provide comprehensive medical services. To support this, the government has recruited 1,616 specialist doctors and is filling 607 Assistant Professor posts in teaching hospitals.

Why it matters
