Ten Dead and Dozens Missing After Gaza Building Collapse
· World · Times of India, Al Jazeera
At least 10 Palestinians, including children, were killed when a six-storey apartment building collapsed in western Gaza City overnight on Wednesday. The structure, located in the Tal al-Hawa area, was housing families displaced by the ongoing conflict with Israel when it caved in on nearby residential structures and tents. Gaza Civil Defence reported that 15 injured individuals were rescued, while more than 60 people remain missing beneath the rubble. Local reports indicate the building had suffered structural damage from previous Israeli airstrikes before the collapse. Rescue operations have been severely hindered by shortages of heavy equipment and construction materials required to clear the debris.
Why it matters
The collapse underscores the acute vulnerability of damaged residential infrastructure in Gaza, where displaced families live in compromised buildings amid severe shortages of rescue equipment.
