Thackeray Brothers And Opposition Leaders Lead Mumbai Protest Against CEC
· India · Hindustan Times, The Hindu, NDTV
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and MNS chief Raj Thackeray led a joint protest march in Mumbai on Saturday alongside leaders from Congress and the NCP (SP). The 'Virat Garjana Morcha' started from Metro Cinema and marched to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation headquarters to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Protesters raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and called for the use of ballot papers. Organisers restricted participants to carrying only the national tricolour, banning political party flags. This marks the third joint appearance by the Thackeray cousins after putting aside their political rivalry.
Why it matters
The rare alliance between the Thackeray cousins and major opposition parties in Maharashtra consolidates anti-establishment pressure ahead of upcoming political battles.
