Gloria Steinem, a prominent figure in U.S. feminism and co-founder of Ms. Magazine, has died at her home in New York at the age of 92. Steinem maintained a long-standing connection with India, having spent two years in the country after graduating from Smith College in 1956. During her time in India, she studied at Miranda House in Delhi and later collaborated extensively with Ruchira Gupta, founder of the non-profit Apne Aap Women Worldwide. Steinem was known for her "Talking Circles" activism and her commitment to movement building, a practice she credited to her experiences in India. She also co-edited the book As if Women Matter: The Essential Gloria with Ms. Gupta.
