The deceased have been identified as Wahid Khan (29), Nitin Binrawan (28), Kamlesh Tamboli (30), and Manoj Meena (25). According to Ujjain administrative officials, two workers initially entered the clogged waste tank around 11 pm, while two others entered in an attempt to rescue them after they collapsed from gas exposure. Two additional individuals fell ill during rescue attempts and were admitted for treatment. The Madhya Pradesh government has announced financial assistance of ₹4 lakh each for the families of the four deceased workers.
Why it matters
The incident puts immediate focus on commercial safety compliance and the lack of protective equipment provided to daily wage sanitation workers in waste management operations. It raises urgent accountability questions for hotel management regarding hazardous working conditions.
