Three-Day Bank Strike Deferred Following Talks Between IBA and UFBU

· Business · LiveMint, India Today, Times of India

A planned three-day bank strike scheduled from September 28 to 30 across India has been deferred. The decision was reached late on September 27 following discussions between the Indian Banks' Association and the United Forum of Bank Unions. Both parties agreed to establish a high-level committee to examine the core demand for a five-day banking week by declaring all Saturdays as holidays. Public sector and regional rural banks had earlier opened on Sunday, September 27, to handle customer transactions ahead of the anticipated walkout. The committee will consult stakeholders to work out an acceptable solution regarding residual charter demands and pension schemes.

Why it matters

The deferral of the nationwide bank strike averts widespread disruption to retail banking, salary processing, and commercial transactions across India.
