Three Family Members Killed in Thrissur Bike Accident After Speeding Car Hits Motorcycle

· India · NDTV, Zee News, The Hindu

Three members of a family—Muneer (35), his wife Safna (25), and their three-year-old son Yamil Aibak—died after a speeding car rammed their motorcycle on the Guruvayur-Kunnamkulam road in Thrissur district, Kerala, just before midnight on Saturday. The family had stopped to answer a call when the car, allegedly returning from a bar in Kunnamkulam, lost control and struck them, throwing the victims nearly 50 meters away. The driver fled the scene, while two occupants of the car have been detained for questioning. Police are actively tracing the driver. The accident follows a similar fatal crash on Friday night, where eight Tamil Nadu engineering students died after their car collided with a parked truck on National Highway 66 in Thrissur.

Why it matters

The tragedy underscores the persistent danger of reckless driving and speeding on Kerala’s roads, particularly at night, and raises concerns about road safety measures in the state. Families of the victims and the broader community are left grieving, while the ongoing investigation may reveal whether stricter enforcement or infrastructure changes are needed to prevent such incidents.
