· India · The Hindu, Indian Express
Unidentified gunmen killed three Kuki villagers, including two women, and injured four others in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Monday. The attack occurred at N. Teikhang Kuki village near IT Road, where assailants also torched several houses. Kuki-Zo organisations blamed suspected members of the NSCN (I-M) and the ZUF (K) for the violence. The incident took place along the same road where four Liangmai Naga civilians were gunned down on August 27. Local civil society groups strongly condemned the killings and criticized security forces for failing to prevent the violence.
Why it matters
The killings escalate ethnic tensions in Manipur, compounding the ongoing conflict that began on May 3, 2023, and posing severe challenges to regional security.
