TMC Leader Asish Banerjee Dies by Suicide in Birbhum Office

Former West Bengal minister Asish Banerjee died by suicide by hanging in a TMC office near his residence in Birbhum district on Sunday morning. He left a note alleging innocence of corruption charges related to his tenure as chair of the Tarapith Rampurhat Development Authority. The note claimed he had no role in tender decisions, cheque signing, plan approvals or no‑objection certificates. Banerjee had represented Rampurhat for 25 years and lost the seat to BJP's Dhruba Saha in the 2026 elections. He was 74 and is survived by his wife and son.
