To counter China, India formally puts Gogra, Hot Spring & others on map
· India · Times of India, timesofindia.indiatimes
The Indian government has formally identified 28 places, peaks, mountains, passes, glaciers, and water bodies in Ladakh by standard names on the official Survey of India map. Among the 28 locations are sites in Aksai Chin and Gilgit-Baltistan in POK, which India treats as an integral part of Ladakh. The list features friction points such as Hot Spring and Gogra, which were flashpoints during the 2020 military standoff between India and China. The home ministry stated that the formal identification is intended to remove any ambiguity or misplaced perception regarding these land areas and water bodies. This step follows a similar mapping exercise conducted a couple of months earlier for 27 border areas and passes in Arunachal Pradesh.
Why it matters
This official mapping clarifies India's territorial jurisdiction in sensitive border sectors like Ladakh, countering competing claims from China.
