Train Derails in Northern France, Injuring 44 People

A train carrying 180 passengers derailed between Rouen and Caen in Normandy, northern France, on Friday evening at around 7:30 p.m. local time, injuring 44 people. One injured person is in a critical state and was evacuated by helicopter, according to local prefect Jean-Benoit Albertini. The accident occurred after the train hit an unidentified object near the town of Cleon, a French police spokesperson said. French railway operator SNCF launched an investigation to identify the exact cause of the crash. Train services between Rouen and Caen, and Caen and Le Havre, were suspended, with a replacement bus service put in place.
