Travel Company Ordered to Pay Rs 14,725 After Bus Skips Pickup

· India · Indian Express, Times of India

The Ballari District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission directed a private travel company to pay Rs 14,725 to a passenger after a bus from Ballari to Hyderabad missed its designated pickup point. The complainant, 28-year-old N Anudeep, had booked a ticket for Rs 1,725 for travel on March 21 but was left stranded with his parents near Durgamma Temple in Ballari when the vehicle failed to arrive. Commission president N Thippeswamy and member Marla Shashikala ruled that the travel agency exhibited a deficiency in service and subjected the passenger to mental agony. The consumer court ordered compensation along with Rs 10,000 toward litigation costs in its October 13 order. The panel noted that private travel agencies frequently overcharge passengers during weekends and holidays while failing to maintain proper service standards.

Why it matters

This ruling strengthens consumer protections against private bus operators who fail to honor bookings and leave passengers stranded.
