Trump Calls Midterms Most Important in Our Lifetime
· World · ABC News (AU), Hindustan Times
Donald Trump characterized the upcoming US midterm elections as the most important in our lifetime during a final campaign speech in Washington DC. He acknowledged that his Republican Party faces a difficult path to maintaining control of Congress, citing historical trends where the sitting president's party typically loses seats. Current polling shows Trump with an approval rating of approximately 37 per cent, one of the lowest for a president heading into midterms since World War II. In Texas, Republican candidate Ken Paxton is reportedly trailing Democrat James Talarico in polls, despite the state's historical Republican lean.
Why it matters
The outcome of these elections will determine which party controls the US Congress, directly impacting the legislative agenda for the remainder of the presidential term.
