Trump Threatens Oman Again to Block US‑Iran Talks
· World · Al Jazeera, NDTV, Hindustan Times
Trump threatened to bomb Oman again if it obstructed US‑Iran negotiations. He said earlier that the US had opened a direct backchannel to Iran’s IRGC, which Iran denies. Oman has been mediating between Iran and the US over reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil route. The 60‑day MoU that once set a peace‑talk framework expired in August with no renewal. Trump made a similar threat in May, warning that Oman could be "blown up" if it interfered with a short‑term deal to control the strait. The statement adds pressure on Oman, a neutral Gulf ally that has faced Iranian strikes.
Why it matters
This threat could destabilise maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a corridor that supplies a significant share of India’s crude oil imports.
