Tunisians are experiencing a severe cost-of-living crisis that has significantly worsened since the 2010 Arab Spring protests. The Tunisian dinar has lost half its value against the US dollar over the last 15 years, making essential food imports increasingly expensive. Data shows the price of tomatoes has risen 113 percent, chicken 118 percent, and cooking oil 129 percent since 2010. Beef prices have nearly quadrupled to 52.5 dinars per kilogram, while carrots have seen a 428 percent price increase. The country relies heavily on foreign food imports, which are paid for in foreign currency, further straining household budgets.
