Two Bihar railway police caught hiding 27 litres of seized liquor from Garib Rath Express
· India · India Today, Hindustan Times
A GRP head constable and a woman Home Guard personnel were arrested on October 20 after allegedly concealing 27 litres of liquor recovered from the Garib Rath Express at Hajipur Junction. The two, posted with Hajipur GRP, were on patrol duty when they recovered four bags of liquor but failed to report the seizure, instead hiding the bags. Senior railway officers, including the Rail SP and GRP in-charge, ordered an investigation after learning of the incident. CCTV footage reportedly showed the personnel carrying the bags off the train. The Hajipur GRP registered a case under the Bihar Prohibition Act and sent the two to jail. Police are also probing who brought the liquor aboard the train and whether smugglers were involved.
Why it matters
The incident exposes a direct failure of enforcement in Bihar's liquor ban, tarnishing the credibility of those entrusted with upholding the law and raising questions about potential complicity in alcohol smuggling.
