Two Injured After Ceiling Collapse at Mumbai’s CSMT Station

· India · Indian Express, Hindustan Times

Two commuters were injured on Thursday night when a portion of the ceiling collapsed near the booking hall entrance at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai. The incident occurred at approximately 10:05 pm in an area currently undergoing redevelopment and maintenance by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA). Vinayak Hatkar, 28, and Ayan Matwankar, 24, were treated at St George’s Hospital for scalp wounds, lacerations, and ankle swelling. This collapse follows another incident earlier this month involving a wall falling at a nearby building earmarked for demolition.

Why it matters

The incident raises safety concerns for the 1.2 million passengers who use the heritage station daily, particularly as extensive redevelopment work continues.
