Two Kuki-Zo Women Gunned Down by Assailants in Manipur
· India · Indian Express, The Hindu
Two Kuki-Zo women were shot dead by unidentified armed assailants while working on a farm in Manipur's Tamenglong district on Tuesday. The victims have been identified as 76-year-old Phalneichong Sitlhou and 30-year-old Kimjalhing Singson. Officials report that miscreants also set fire to several kutcha farmhouses, leaving multiple villagers untraceable following the attack near Muktokhal. This incident follows two separate attacks on Kuki settlements in Longpi and Tollen on Sunday that left four people dead. The Kuki-Zo Council has condemned the violence and urged authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice while directing community organisations not to bury the victims yet.
Why it matters
The continuous targeting of civilians in the Jiribam-Tamenglong region deepens ethnic tensions between communities in Manipur and displaces vulnerable residents from their settlements.
